Spectrocell VIS cells are used where tests are being conducted in the visible wavelengths only, that is, from 400-700 nanometers. Borosilicate glass is the best choice for tests being performed in this wavelength. Most manufacturers make their VIS cells from crown glass. Crown glass is fine for optical lenses & prisms, but it is a soft glass and lacks the chemical inertness of harder glass. Its main advantage is lower cost.

Spectrocell manufactures all our VIS cells from borosilicate glass (such as Pyrex©). Borosilicate glass is a hard glass with much better chemical resistance and out performs soft glasses by a wide margin in this respect.  That is why it is used for the manufacture of most lab apparatus.  It also has better thermal properties than crown glass, such as resistance to cracking from thermal shock.  Please click here if you would like to request a quote.
