Electronic Stirring Systems
| The precision built SPECTRO-STIR system is designed to continuously mix liquid samples during scanning, promoting greater accuracy and reproducibility in the spectrophotometry of suspensions, and in kinetic reaction studies. SPECTRO-STIR is available in two types: a direct stirrer and a magnetically-coupled stirrer. Both are driven by precision, low voltage DC mini motors. Stirring speeds are accurately set with an electronic controller/regulator. Adjustments can be made for low speed stirring to maintain sample homogeneity while protecting delicate cell suspensions from degradation. | |||||||||||||

| SPECTRO-STIR
components form an integrated system designed to work together. Other
power sources cannot be substituted for the SPECTRO-STIR
controller/regulator as they would cause loss of speed control. The
units’ fully enclosed low voltage DC mini motors are precision built,
long lived and virtually vibration free. They resist moisture
penetration, and are easily disassembled for cleaning when necessary. A
slinger on the direct drive model prevents liquid from climbing the
shaft. A low voltage DC unit provides safe, regulated power and speed
control for either the direct drive or magnetically coupled stirrer.
It’s low voltage wall-plug type transformer eliminates any line voltage
hazard.
Stirrer speed is set by a knob on the front panel which includes an indicator and on/off switch. A “pseudo-tachometer” feedback circuit governs motor speed and prevents run-away on starting. A flat ribbon type lead attaches to the motor/stirrer. Electromagnetic interference with the spectrophotometer photo-multiplier is reduced to a negligible level by a sophisticated analog control circuit. Direct-Drive Spectro-Stir Nos. SYS-D1 & SYS-M1. These direct drive motors use disposable PTFE shafts that project downward into the cuvette. The PTFE shaft, a friction fit, is easily removed from the motor coupling, and any surplus shaft length clipped off to prevent interference with the monochromator light beam. The motor/stirrer may be lifted off as a unit, and easily switched between cuvettes. Mounted height above cuvette is only 20 mm. SYS-D1 consists of motor/shaft assembly, Model CTR-11 Electronic Controller and three adapters for standard 1cm x 1cm cuvettes, stopper top cells and semi-micro cuvettes. SYS-M1 consists of motor/shaft assembly, Model CTR-11 Electronic Controller. The three adapters are for micro cells, micro long and semi-micro cells. SYS-114 Magnetically-Coupled Spectro-Stir. A magnet attached directly to the motor shaft to turn a PTFE coated spin bar within the cuvette. It may be mounted below or along side the cell on a simple bracket or fixture supplied by the user. Only 35 mm clearance between the cell and cell compartment is required. |

Spectro-Stir systems perform reliably over a very wide range of sample viscosities and, with virtually any material, producing uniform dispersion in the widest range of specimens.
